A Host is simply a computer or hard drive that contains data, files or information that computers all over the world can connect to. When we develop a website, we store them on this hard drive so that computers can connect to it 24/7. What does hosting cost? The average website that we build should cost from $100-$200 per year for this dedicated hard drive space.
How do we pick a host/data storage company? We pick our hosting companies based on reliability, speed, size, availability of backup and communication. As you know, computers break down. No host will guarantee 100% up time (the time online) as data centres can be hit by natural disasters, power outages or other events out of our control. This being said, we like to choose hosts, who communicate well with us if there is a problem, so we know that issues are being worked on.
Why host through us, and not do it yourself? We do this work every day, so we know the ins and outs of a good host, and how to quickly and efficiently upload a website. Believe it when we tell you, this can be a VERY complicated process for a first timer. Again we choose the largest hosts in the world and only want to put our work in the hands of the best.
Why are you being charged over $100 per month? Back when people weren’t so web savvy, people weren’t well educated, so web developers back then knew this was a way to take advantage of reselling hosting. To tell you the truth, most people were getting ripped off. We have run into people up to today who are still paying this amount of money… About 10 times the amount of what we charge, and usually for a lesser quality host.
If you have questions or concerns regarding your hosting, give us a call at (204) 786-1166 and we’ll be happy to help you out!
